Pune Airport has seen a decline in the usage of the DigiYatra app since early 2024, following the Civil Aviation Ministry’s clarification on its voluntary nature. The facial recognition-based system, which was launched in April 2023, was designed to streamline the airport experience but has faced privacy concerns and enforcement issues.

Despite the drop in DigiYatra usage, the airport has experienced growth in passenger numbers and flight operations. In the fiscal year 2023-24, the airport saw 95.25 lakh passengers and 64,030 flight movements, surpassing pre-pandemic levels. Cargo operations, however, remained stagnant at 39,557 Metric Tonnes.

The initial usage of the DigiYatra app in January 2024 was 1,73,004 passengers, but this number decreased to 1,36,423 passengers by April 2024. The decline in usage can be attributed to the clarification on its voluntary use and the increase in traditional check-ins.

Despite these challenges, Pune Airport remains optimistic about future advancements in both passenger and cargo operations. With ongoing improvements and the resolution of regulatory challenges, the airport is poised for continued growth in the future.
