Pune airport is all set to undergo a major transformation with the expansion of its runway. The crucial Obstacles Limitation Surface (OLS) survey is set to kick off on July 8, with a team from Delhi representing the Airport Authority of India taking charge. This survey is expected to last for at least ten days and the results will play a key role in securing final approval from the Ministry of Civil Aviation for the runway extension project.

Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has already given the green signal for the project, which involves adding approximately 800 meters to the current runway length of 2,535 meters. The aim is to accommodate larger aircraft and improve operational capabilities at Pune airport, making it a hub for smoother air travel experiences.

Union Minister of State for Civil Aviation, Muralidhar Mohol, along with the support of Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, has fast-tracked the necessary approvals to ensure the project progresses smoothly. The estimated cost of the runway extension project is around ₹160 crores, primarily allocated for land acquisition to create additional space on both sides of the runway.

Once the runway extension is complete, a comprehensive assessment will be conducted to identify any potential obstructions from nearby buildings and trees, ensuring seamless aircraft operations. This enhancement is set to significantly boost Pune airport’s operational capabilities and contribute to the region’s connectivity and economic growth, making it a key player in the aviation industry.
