Hey there, folks! Big news coming out of Maharashtra today! Union Minister of State for Civil Aviation and Cooperation, Murlidhar Mohol, recently took to X (formerly Twitter) to share some exciting updates. He revealed that he had a meeting with Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and Deputy Chief Ministers Devendra Fadnavis and Ajit Pawar, where he pitched the idea of renaming Pune International Airport after Jagatguru Sant Tukaram Maharaj.

According to Mohol, the Maharashtra State Government is on board with the proposal and will be sending it over to the Central Government for official approval. He assured his followers that he would be actively following up on the progress of the proposal once it’s in the hands of the Central Government.

Mohol explained that the naming process involves the Maharashtra State Government putting forth the suggestion, which then needs the stamp of approval from the Central Government. As a representative of Pune, he made a formal request to the state government to consider this renaming.

The minister highlighted the significance of Lohgaon, the airport’s location, to Jagatguru Sant Tukaram Maharaj, as it was his mother’s village. He emphasized the strong connection between Lohgaon and Sant Tukaram, as well as the sentiments of the Warkari sect in Maharashtra, making the proposed renaming a perfect fit.

In addition to his proposal, Mohol also conducted a thorough review of Pune Airport’s facilities, including the Medical Inspection (MI) Room. He expressed satisfaction with the current standards but stressed the need for continuous improvements to meet the increasing demands of travellers. Discussions with airport authorities centered on enhancing infrastructure and service quality to better accommodate rising passenger traffic and improve overall efficiency. Mohol reaffirmed the Ministry of Civil Aviation’s commitment to supporting the airport in tackling any challenges it may face.

Exciting times ahead for Pune International Airport! Stay tuned for more updates on this renaming proposal.
