In a shocking development, cyber fraudsters have managed to scam residents of Pune out of a whopping ₹38 lakh in a string of investment fraud cases. The victims, including a senior citizen, a woman, and a Vishrantwadi resident, were promised high returns in the stock market by the scammers.
The first victim, a senior citizen from Market Yard, lost a staggering ₹21.48 lakh to the fraudsters. After receiving a message offering lucrative stock market returns, the businessman fell for the scam and transferred money to the cybercriminals’ bank accounts. Despite initial refunds to gain his trust, the scammers eventually disappeared, prompting the victim to file a complaint at the Market Yard Police Station.
In a similar incident, a woman was conned out of ₹6.69 lakh by cyber fraudsters who promised her profitable investment opportunities in the stock market. She reported the fraud to the Mundhwa Police Station, where Senior Police Inspector Neelkanth Jagtap is now handling the case.
Adding to the list of victims, a resident of Vishrantwadi was duped of ₹11.23 lakh under the same scheme. Convinced by the scammers to invest a large sum of money, the victim was left empty-handed when the cybercriminals vanished after receiving the funds. The case has been registered at Vishrantwadi Police Station, with Police Inspector Yuvraj Hande leading the investigation.
Authorities are cautioning citizens to be wary of unsolicited investment offers and to verify the legitimacy of such schemes before transferring any money. Investigations are currently ongoing in all three cases to track down and apprehend the cyber fraudsters responsible for the scams. Stay vigilant and stay safe, Pune!
