As Ganeshotsav festivities continue to spread joy and excitement across India, Indians living abroad are also joining in on the celebration. In a unique display of creativity, ‘Vitamin M,’ an organization based in Florida, USA, recently organized a virtual competition for homemade Ganeshotsav decorations.

The competition, which has been held through WhatsApp groups for the past few years, saw participants submitting their entries during the first two days of Ganeshotsav. After careful evaluation by expert judges, the winners were announced.

This year, Kshitija Deshpande and Nilay Kulkarni took the top spot with their stunning recreation of the iconic catch taken by Suryakumar Yadav during the T20 World Cup final. The second prize was shared between Ashwini Pawar and family, who showcased Vitthal-Rakhumai in their decoration, and Sukhda Gokhale, Neel Gokhale, and Anusha Muley, who incorporated an ‘Upcycling Theme’ in their design.

Judges for the competition included Manjusha Naik from the Board of Trustees of Bruhan Maharashtra Mandal (BMM) and Sheetal Sogal, an art connoisseur. Yashashree Deshpande, the Director of ‘Vitamin M,’ expressed that the competition successfully aligns with Lokmanya Tilak’s vision of promoting public Ganeshotsav celebrations.

‘Vitamin M’ has been actively engaging the Marathi community in America for the past six years, organizing various events to help individuals stay connected with their cultural roots. During the COVID-19 pandemic, the organization also undertook initiatives such as door-to-door grocery deliveries and free distribution of around 300 saplings.

The organization’s efforts have not gone unnoticed, with All India Radio (AIR) recognizing their contributions to the community. Through such initiatives, ‘Vitamin M’ continues to make a positive impact and foster a sense of community among Indians living abroad.
