As Dussehra approaches, the flower market in Pune is abuzz with activity as residents gear up for one of the most significant festivals in the Hindu calendar. The Market Yard in Pune saw a surge in the arrival of marigold flowers, a traditional favorite for Dussehra celebrations. Prices ranged from ₹80 to ₹120 per kilogram, depending on quality, with other flowers like chrysanthemums, asters, gladiolus, gerbera, and roses also in high demand.
Over 300 tons of marigolds were brought in from surrounding regions in just two days, bringing satisfaction to farmers with improved prices compared to last year. The Market Yard witnessed a flurry of activity with garland sellers and retail buyers flocking in large numbers, causing a slight dip in marigold prices due to increased supply. White and yellow chrysanthemums were particularly popular, with prices going up to ₹200 per kilogram.
The surge in flower sales led to traffic congestion around the Market Yard, with many security guards absent, making the situation chaotic. However, efforts by the APMC Secretary and his team helped manage the congestion and ensure space for farmers to sell their flowers. With an increase in the supply of various flowers and efficient logistical efforts, this year’s flower market in Pune is thriving, providing a colorful array of blooms for the upcoming Dussehra festival.
