Pune made headlines recently as a Guinness World Record was set on the eve of the Pune Pustak Mahotsav, also known as the Pune Book Fair. The record was set by creating the Saraswati symbol using a staggering 4,189 books. Officials from the Guinness World Record were on hand to evaluate the feat and officially declare the setting of the record, presenting a certificate to the organizers.

The book fair, organized by the National Book Trust, is taking place at the Fergusson College ground from December 14 to 22. The Guinness World Record event was attended by various dignitaries including Legislative Council Chairperson Dr Neelam Gorhe, MLA Chitra Wagh, NBT Chairman Dr Milind Marathe, and other prominent figures.

Speaking at the event, Chitra Wagh emphasized the importance of reading for personal enrichment and called for book fairs to be held in every district of the state. Rajesh Pande, the organizer of the Pune Book Fair, expressed his delight at the enthusiastic response from Puneites and highlighted the additional cultural events being held alongside the fair.

Dr Neelam Gorhe raised concerns about the overuse of mobile phones by children and called for measures to protect them from potentially harmful content. She cited Australia’s ban on mobile phones for children as an example to consider.

Overall, the record-setting event at the Pune Book Fair was a celebration of literature and culture, highlighting the city’s love for books and the importance of promoting reading among all age groups.
