Hey Pune peeps, listen up! Looks like we might be facing a water crisis soon if things don’t change. The canal committee has decided to reserve 7.5 TMC of water until July 15 to prevent any shortages. But here’s the kicker – some MLAs from rural areas are not happy with how the water is being distributed.

The committee meeting, which was supposed to happen earlier, got postponed, leading to a last-minute adjustment in the water distribution plan. Right now, we’ve got 16 TMC of water in the dams, but 1.10 TMC is expected to evaporate in the next few months. And 7.5 TMC has been set aside for agriculture.

But here’s where it gets real – the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) is currently supplying 1,460 MLD of water per day. But during the summer, that number shoots up to 1,550–1,600 MLD. That’s a big jump, folks! The PMC needs 18.61 TMC of water every year, but they’ve only been given 14.61 TMC. Yikes!

To make matters worse, if you go over your water limit, get ready to pay triple the standard rate. Ouch! This move is definitely going to hit our wallets hard. So, Punekars, it’s time to start conserving water and using it wisely. Let’s not wait until we’re in a full-blown crisis before we take action. Let’s do our part to keep those taps flowing this summer!
