As winter tightens its grip on Maharashtra, the cold spell intensifies, bringing significant temperature drops across the state. Remarkably, Pune is experiencing colder weather than the typically cooler Mahabaleshwar, with today’s minimum temperature plunging to 10°C. This shift has locals bundling up against the unexpected chill as the city anticipates even cooler temperatures.
Cyclonic Winds and Cooling Trends Across the State
Currently, the region is influenced by cyclonic wind patterns located over Comorin and nearby areas of the Arabian Sea at approximately 0.9 km above sea level, with similar conditions over the southeastern Arabian Sea near Kerala. These atmospheric conditions have ushered in cooler air, notably affecting the northern parts of India where both day and night temperatures have fallen by 1–2°C.
In the last day alone, Pune recorded the lowest temperature in Maharashtra at 12.2°C, while the national low was observed at Ridge with 8.1°C.
Projected Weather Changes in Maharashtra
Dr. Anupam Kashyapi, a retired meteorologist, has forecasted a shift in the weather pattern with an expected gradual increase in minimum temperatures starting November 23, due to changing wind directions. Additionally, the formation of a low-pressure area over the Southeast Bay of Bengal is likely to cause light rainfall across parts of Maharashtra, including Pune, from November 28. This wet weather is predicted to last for about three to four days, mainly affecting the southern and central regions of the state.
Weather Outlook for the Coming Days
Temperature Fluctuations: Residents can expect a continued drop in temperatures in the short term, followed by a gradual warming trend after November 23.
Rainfall Prediction: Anticipate light rainfall starting November 28, impacting Pune and surrounding areas, linked to the emerging low-pressure system.
Residents of Maharashtra, particularly in Pune, should prepare for colder mornings and potential rainy conditions as the month progresses. This unexpected weather calls for appropriate preparations to stay warm and dry during this unseasonal chill and impending rainfall.
