A recent Right to Information (RTI) application has brought to light a concerning issue in Pune regarding illegal hoardings on Bus Rapid Transit System (BRTS) shelters. Social activist Qaneez Sukhrani filed the inquiry on August 25, revealing that the advertising contract for these shelters expired on April 24 with no official extension agreements in place.

The lack of documentation surrounding the contract extension has raised questions about the misuse of public space for commercial purposes. The continued display of advertisements on expired contracts is a violation of regulations and requires immediate action.

Moreover, the neglect of maintenance and removal of abandoned shelters along Nagar Road has further highlighted the poor management of public infrastructure. The misuse of shelters by beggars and the homeless adds to the deteriorating condition of the shelters, reflecting poorly on both the PMPML and the PMC.

Qaneez Sukhrani has called for accountability in the handling of the RTI response, emphasizing the need for proper documentation to validate any extensions or modifications to the original contract. The lack of transparency in this matter only adds to the concerns surrounding the misuse of public funds and infrastructure.
