As the PMC gears up for its 2025-26 budget, political parties in Pune are vying for a piece of the pie. With projects worth Rs 50 to 100 Crore on the table, candidates from all parties, including MLAs, have submitted their wish lists to the PMC Commissioner, Dr. Rajendra Bhosale.
Dr. Bhosale made it clear that only projects that align with the PMC’s objectives will make the cut. Despite the influx of proposals, budget constraints will limit the number of projects that can be accommodated. Maharashtra Cabinet Minister Chandrakant Patil also pitched in, submitting projects on behalf of Pune’s MLAs.
While the pressure is on to secure funding for various initiatives, the commissioner assured that the budget allocation process is free from political interference. Meetings have already been held with relevant departments and the chief accountant to discuss priorities and limitations.
However, not everyone is convinced of the fairness of the process. Opposition members have raised concerns about potential bias towards certain parties, threatening legal action if citizen interests are not prioritized. Dr. Bhosale reiterated that transparency and fairness are key principles guiding the budget allocation decisions.
As the PMC sifts through the project lists, only those deemed essential to the city’s development and land acquisition efforts will be chosen. The final budget will reflect the city’s needs and the available resources, striking a balance between competing demands within the corporation’s financial constraints.
