Heavy rainfall in Pune over the past two days has caused chaos for commuters, particularly those reliant on cab services. With many roads flooded and traffic at a standstill in areas like Sinhagad Road, Dhayari, Kalyani Nagar, and Deccan Gymkhana, cab drivers have taken advantage of the situation to increase fares.

Commuters have reported cab drivers refusing to ply on certain routes, leaving them no choice but to turn to PMPML buses and auto-rickshaws for transportation. Those who were able to secure a cab faced exorbitant prices, with fares reportedly increasing by at least Rs 50 for autos and Rs 100 for cabs.

Frustrated passengers have also complained of cab drivers cancelling bookings or trying to cancel them, only to accept when offered higher fares. One woman in the Sinhagad area shared, “I tried to book a cab for six hours but could not find one willing to take me to Kothrud. Many drivers simply cancelled my booking.”

Another commuter on Pune-Satara Road in Katraj recounted a similar experience, saying, “I had to offer extra money just to get a cab to take me to Bavdhan. It’s like they’re taking advantage of the situation to loot passengers.”

The influx of visitors to Pune, combined with the heavy rains, has created a perfect storm for commuters, who are left at the mercy of cab drivers looking to make a quick buck.
