Hey there, Pune folks! Did you know that the historic Somwar Peth Police Colony recently celebrated its centenary in style? Yep, that’s right! Established during the British era way back in 1924, this colony has seen it all – from dense forests and agricultural land to the bustling cityscape of modern-day Pune.
At the centenary event held on Sunday, veteran cricketer Chandu Borde, who grew up in the colony, took a trip down memory lane, reminiscing about his childhood days spent playing cricket in the tight-knit community. The event was a grand affair, with notable figures like Deputy Director Rajendra Gole, Marathi actor-director Praveen Tarde, and senior police officers in attendance.
Borde, who was honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award for his cricket contributions, shared heartfelt stories about his upbringing in the Police Colony. He highlighted the strong sense of unity and tradition that still thrives among the residents, who come from various backgrounds and celebrate festivals together with great enthusiasm.
The centenary celebration, organized by the dedicated Somwar Peth Police Colony Centenary Celebration Committee, brought together current and former residents, including police personnel and their families. It was a day filled with speeches, awards, and lots of nostalgia as everyone came together to honor the legacy of this historic colony.
Kudos to Anil Jagtap, President of the Committee, along with Vice President Prakash Chavan and Coordinator Dilip Shinde, for putting together such a memorable event. Here’s to another hundred years of community spirit and togetherness at the Somwar Peth Police Colony! Cheers to many more memories in the making.
