Alright folks, buckle up for some bridge-related news in Pune! The old overbridge has been off-limits to heavy vehicles for a whopping 18 months now. That’s a long time to keep the big trucks away. Currently, only light vehicles heading from the old Pune-Mumbai highway towards Chinchwad Gaon are allowed to use the bridge. But hold onto your hats, because the railway authorities are considering whether to shut down the overbridge completely before they start tearing it down.
But fear not, a consultant has been brought in to work their magic and design a brand spanking new overbridge. Once the design gets the green light from the railway authorities, they’ll kick off the tendering process. And get this – the same consultant who’s doing the structural audit will also be handling the design. So, hopefully, things will move along a bit quicker than usual.
In other bridge news, the Indira Gandhi railway overbridge in Pimpri, which has been around for a cool 40 years, has finally gotten some much-needed TLC. The civic body got the ball rolling on strengthening the bridge back in February 2020, but thanks to everyone’s favorite party crasher, Covid-19, the work got delayed. According to a PCMC official, they’re just about done with the work on two wings of the structure, and the finishing touches will be wrapped up before you can say “bridge construction.” Stay tuned for more updates on these bridges – it’s bridge city up in here!
