Hey there, Pune peeps! Did you know that over 1,000 citizens gathered at Vetal Tekdi on Sunday morning to advocate for environmental conservation in the city? Yep, you read that right! These dedicated folks reminded political parties of their commitment to preserving the environment and urged fellow citizens to vote for candidates who share the same vision during the upcoming State Assembly elections.
The Vetal Tekdi Kruti Samiti organized an awareness walk from Aapla Maruti to the quarry and back, with participants of all ages and backgrounds coming together for the cause. Ranjeet Rane, a member of the Samiti, emphasized the importance of citizens voicing their demands for good governance, especially in light of the looming threat of climate change.
The ‘Citizens’ Manifesto’ released after the walk outlined key demands for candidates, including a focus on improving public transport, completing the Metro network, and halting three development projects planned at Vetal Tekdi. Members of the Samiti also stressed the need to designate Vetal Tekdi and other hills as ‘Natural Heritage Sites’ and ‘No Development Zones.’
In a heartwarming gesture, a city-based IT company conducted a cleanliness drive at Vetal Tekdi, collecting over 35 sacks of plastic and glass litter. The initiative, part of the company’s CSR activity, was met with gratitude from Samiti member Sushma Date and other participants.
The message is clear – Puneites are passionate about protecting the hills that define their city’s identity. Let’s continue working together to ensure a sustainable and livable future for generations to come.
