In a recent development in Pune, citizen group Angholichi Goli has taken a stand against the harmful practice of using artificial lighting and other encroachments on trees. According to founder member Madhav Patil, this practice is like a slow poison for trees and goes against the Maharashtra (Urban Areas) Protection and Preservation of Trees Act, 1975.

The group has initiated a petition calling for the PMC Tree Authority to take immediate action to protect the city’s green cover. Patil emphasized the importance of more citizens coming forward to demand action, stating that the sooner collective voices are raised, the quicker the PMC will respond.

Residents from all corners of Pune have joined the campaign to safeguard trees, with plans to submit the petition to the PMC Tree Authority for stricter measures. This movement highlights the increasing awareness and active participation of citizens in preserving the city’s ecological balance and holding authorities accountable. Let’s hope this initiative leads to positive change and a greener future for Pune.
