If you own a CNG vehicle in Pune or the surrounding areas, get ready to shell out some extra cash for refueling. The Maharashtra Natural Gas Limited (MNGL) has announced a price hike of ₹1.50 per kilogram, bringing the cost of compressed natural gas to ₹85 per kilogram. This change, effective as of July 9, will impact residents in Pune, Pimpri-Chinchwad, Chakan, Talegaon, and Hinjawadi.

So, why the sudden increase in prices? Well, it seems that the rising demand for CNG, coupled with local gas shortages and higher costs of imported gas, have all contributed to this decision. After a period of stability, CNG prices have started to climb post-elections as the market dynamics shift.

This isn’t the first time CNG prices have seen adjustments. In the past year, we’ve seen prices go up and down. Last October, prices went up by ₹4, followed by another ₹1 hike. However, right before the elections in March, prices were reduced by ₹2.50. Now, with the latest hike, CNG will cost ₹85 per kilogram.

The impact on consumers is clear – they’ll have to dig a little deeper into their pockets when filling up their tanks. With fluctuating prices over the past year, this latest increase will only add to the financial burden on CNG vehicle owners in the affected areas.
