If you’re a Pune local or frequent walker in the Hanuman Tekdi area, you might want to keep an eye out for any suspicious characters. Just last Saturday, a college student fell victim to a robbery where thieves threatened her with a crowbar and made off with her gold chain worth a whopping ₹1 lakh.
The incident, which took place around 2 pm on January 4, has left the community on edge, especially since this marks the third robbery in the area in just two months. The victim, who was walking with a friend at the time, was accosted by the robbers who not only threatened and abused them but also physically assaulted the girl before snatching her jewelry.
The frightened victims took two days to gather their courage and file a police complaint, which was lodged on January 6 at the Deccan Police Station. Senior Police Inspector Girisha Nimbalkar wasted no time in inspecting the scene of the crime, with Police Sub-Inspector Sawant heading up the investigation.
Unfortunately, this isn’t the first time such incidents have occurred in the Pune hill areas. Just two months ago, college students walking near Baner-Pashan Road were also targeted in a similar fashion, leading to the arrest of the culprits by Chaturshringi Police.
With crimes on the rise in areas like Hanuman Tekdi, Vetal Tekdi, Pashan-Baner Road hill, and Taljai Tekdi, it’s no wonder that citizens are feeling anxious. Stay safe out there, Pune!
