Construction in Pune is under scrutiny as the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) cracks down on non-compliance with Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) regulations. Complaints have poured in about construction professionals ignoring rules, leading to increased air pollution in the city.
To address this issue, the PMC has issued a warning to construction professionals, threatening punitive action for those who fail to follow the guidelines. The Building Permission Department has given an eight-day deadline for compliance, after which violators will face consequences. City Engineer Prashant Waghmare stressed the importance of adhering to the regulations to combat rising pollution levels caused by construction activities.
In an effort to enforce compliance, the PMC has sent out emails to construction professionals, architects, material suppliers, and haulage workers in Pune, urging them to follow the CPCB guidelines. Failure to comply within the given timeframe will result in punitive measures being taken against the violators.
The regulations set by the CPCB aim to reduce the harmful fine dust particles produced by construction work. These rules include erecting signs on construction site boundary walls, covering sites with green cloth, spraying water to control dust, preventing dust from blowing, and covering roads during material transportation. The Building Permission Department’s enforcement of these regulations comes in response to numerous complaints about construction activities not following these guidelines.
As the construction industry plays a significant role in Pune’s pollution levels, it is crucial for professionals to adhere to the rules set by the CPCB to protect public health and the environment.
