Pune couple takes a 3,000 km scooter journey to Mahakumbh Mela in Prayagraj
In a unique and inspiring feat, a 72-year-old couple from Pune, Suryakant and Rajni Sakhre, decided to forego traditional travel methods and rode their two-wheeler all the way to the Mahakumbh Mela in Prayagraj. The couple covered over 3,000 km on their scooter, visiting various religious sites along the way before reaching their destination.
The Mahakumbh Mela, known for being one of the largest religious gatherings in the world, attracts devotees from all over India and beyond. With the surge in demand for travel tickets, the Sakhre couple decided to take matters into their own hands and embark on their spiritual journey on their trusty two-wheeler.
Their 24-day adventure took them through multiple religious sites such as Shani Shingnapur, Shirdi, Ujjain, Chitrakoot, Kashi, and Ayodhya before arriving in Prayagraj for the Mahakumbh. Upon their return to Pune, the couple was warmly welcomed and felicitated by their family, friends, and well-wishers.
Suryakant Sakhre shared that he had always dreamt of visiting Kashi but had put it off for several years. When he learned about the Mahakumbh Mela in Prayagraj, he saw it as the perfect opportunity to fulfill his dream with his wife by his side.
Despite facing challenges along the way, such as not knowing how to use Google Maps and dealing with a punctured tire, the couple persevered with the help of locals and the cooperative administration in Prayagraj. They maintained a disciplined schedule, ensuring they rested by 5:30 PM every evening to avoid exhaustion.
The Sakhre couple’s incredible journey serves as a testament to the power of faith and determination, proving that age is no barrier to achieving one’s goals. Their story has inspired many and showcases the true essence of pilgrimage and devotion.
