Hey Pune folks, have you noticed how despite the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) pouring in crores of rupees each year to keep the city clean, littering remains a persistent issue? It seems like about 40,000 to 50,000 citizens annually are still not getting the memo about proper waste disposal, leading to some serious health concerns for everyone.
But hold on, it’s not all bad news. The PMC has been cracking down on offenders with some serious fines over the past few years, and it looks like their efforts are finally paying off. Since 2020, the fines collected from litterbugs have shot up almost eight times!
Back in 2020, the PMC managed to collect ₹40.69 lakh in fines for littering and other sanitation violations. Fast forward to 2024, and that number has skyrocketed to ₹3.7 crore! That’s some serious cash being slapped on those who can’t seem to keep their trash in check.
The PMC has been enforcing its public sanitation by-law with a vengeance, hitting offenders with penalties for everything from dumping garbage in public spaces to using banned plastics. And it’s not just about the money – the PMC’s goal is to deter littering and create a cleaner, healthier city for all of us.
Despite all the awareness campaigns and efforts to promote cleanliness, it seems like some citizens are still turning a blind eye to the rules. But with designated teams in each ward office on the lookout for violators, it looks like the PMC is not backing down anytime soon.
And just to give you an idea of how much the fines have been piling up:
– 2020: ₹40.69 lakh
– 2021: ₹96.59 lakh
– 2022: ₹1.19 crore
– 2023: ₹1.66 crore
– 2024: ₹3.07 crore
So, next time you’re thinking of tossing that candy wrapper on the sidewalk, remember – the PMC means business when it comes to keeping Pune clean and green!
