If you’ve been slacking on your waste disposal responsibilities in Pune, you might want to think twice before tossing that banana peel on the ground. The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has been cracking down on offenders with a vengeance, and the fines are no joke.

From improper waste disposal to public urination, the PMC has been hitting residents where it hurts – in their wallets. Sandeep Kadam, the solid waste management guru at PMC, revealed that fines collected in the past three years have hit an all-time high. And they’re not stopping there.

Taking a page out of Indore’s book, PMC has deployed flying squads to catch offenders in the act. These dedicated employees are on a mission to clean up the city, one fine at a time. And if you think you can sneak past them, think again. Health inspectors and squad members now have the authority to hand out fines like candy on Halloween.

Starting next March, the fines for not segregating waste will make your eyes water. For the first offense, you’re looking at a cool ₹300. But if you keep ignoring the rules, that price tag jumps to ₹500. And if you’re a bulk waste generator, you better watch your step. Fines have skyrocketed from ₹5,000 to a whopping ₹15,000, depending on how many times you’ve been caught red-handed. And don’t even think about burning waste – that’ll set you back ₹5,000.

So, if you want to keep your hard-earned money in your pocket, it might be time to start following the rules. The PMC means business, and they’re not afraid to show it.
