The Bopdev Ghat gang rape case has taken a new turn as Pune Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar has transferred the investigation to the Crime Branch. This decision comes as authorities intensify their search for the two suspects still at large.
One of the accused, Chandrakumar Raviprasad Kanojia, a 20-year-old resident of Dindori, Madhya Pradesh, was apprehended on October 11. Kanojia and his two associates stand accused of gang rape and robbery in connection with the incident that occurred on October 3 at Bopdev Ghat.
Police reports suggest that the trio, who had traveled from Madhya Pradesh to Pune with theft in mind, were allegedly intoxicated at the time of the crime. They reportedly assaulted a young man with a bamboo stick before sexually assaulting a young woman using a machete. Following the incident, the suspects fled on a two-wheeler.
In an attempt to evade authorities, the suspects took back roads, covering a distance of 80 kilometers to avoid detection. CCTV footage captured their movements at a petrol pump in the Saswad area and at a nearby liquor shop.
Given the gravity of the situation, the case has been transferred to the Crime Branch for further investigation. Despite the arrest of Kanojia, authorities are still searching for his accomplices, with Kanojia reportedly not providing much information about their whereabouts. The search for the remaining suspects continues.
