Swargate, March 7, 2025: The investigation into the disturbing sexual assault case at the Swargate bus station has taken a new turn as the Pune Crime Branch has taken over the case. Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar made the decision to transfer the probe, and crime branch officers have already spoken with the victim. However, they were left stunned when she asked, “Who is responsible for my defamation?”
Originally under the jurisdiction of the Swargate police, the case has now been handed over to the crime branch for a more thorough investigation. The incident occurred on a Shivshahi bus and involved the accused, Datta Gade, who allegedly assaulted a 26-year-old woman. Gade was apprehended by Pune police with the help of locals within 75 hours of the incident.
Despite the quick arrest, the case became controversial when some individuals questioned the victim’s credibility, suggesting she may have known the accused beforehand. This led to public scrutiny and added stress for the survivor. However, further inquiry revealed Gade’s criminal history and how he had deceived the woman into his trap.
Datta Gade has a record of serious offenses, with two cases against him at the Shikrapur police station and more at Shirur, Kotwali, Supa, and Swargate police stations. The accused and his family tried to mislead the investigation with various claims, prompting authorities to transfer the case to the crime branch.
It was also discovered that Gade had posed as a police officer to commit robberies and had blackmailed women at lodges in Shirur. He was even involved in paid same-sex relationships. These shocking revelations have bolstered the case against him.
As the crime branch delves deeper into the investigation, the priority now is to seek justice for the victim and address the security loopholes at Swargate bus station that allowed such a grave crime to take place.
