The Pune Customs Commissionerate made a bold statement against drug abuse and illicit trafficking by destroying over 6,365.04 kg of seized narcotics. The disposal, which took place on 26th November at the factory premises of M/s. Maharashtra Enviro Power Limited in Pune, included substances such as ganja, charas, mephedrone, methamphetamine, and cocaine.
In total, 14 cases led to the seizure of these drugs, resulting in the arrest of 23 individuals involved in trafficking. Deputy Commissioner of Customs, Sonal Jawanjal, emphasized the commitment to combating drug-related crimes and the government’s policy to take swift action against drug abuse.
The disposal process followed the guidelines set by the Ministry of Finance, Government of India, and was supervised by a High-Level Drug Disposal Committee led by Commissioner of Customs Pune, Yashodhan Wanage. The Pune Customs Commissionerate’s jurisdiction covers several districts, including Pune, Satara, Sangli, Kolhapur, Ratnagiri, and Sindhudurg.
With a dedicated Narcotics Cell, the Pune Customs Commissionerate plays a crucial role in detecting, seizing, and destroying illicit drugs. Jawanjal highlighted the coordinated effort to destroy these narcotics as a strong message of their resolve to curb drug trafficking and protect society from its harmful effects.
