In a bold move to tackle corruption within the Maharashtra Pollution Control Board, a group of Pune entrepreneurs and social workers took to the streets in a dharna protest outside the board’s main office in Mumbai. Led by Halima Sheikh and Sachin Gajarmal, the protesters demanded an end to the extortion and disrespectful treatment faced by industries seeking consent letters from the board.

The protesters highlighted the actions of corrupt officials Ravindra Andhale and Abhijit Kasbe, who allegedly extort money from industries for months without issuing the required consent letters. These officials have been accused of neglecting their duties and failing to take action against polluting projects, leading to losses for industries in the state.

During the protest, a written statement was submitted to the Board’s Secretary calling for action against the corrupt officials. The organization also held a meeting with entrepreneurs to demand the prompt issuance of consent letters to both small and large industries.

Among the protesters were Halima Sheikh, Sachin Gajarmal, President Rakesh Sonawane, Kamrunnisa Sheikh, Mudassar Sheikh, Sagar Jagtap, Tushar Pawar, Praveen Sonawane, Kamrunnisa Sheikh, Javidmiya Jahagirdar, Shama Sheikh, Mumtaz, and Noorjahan. The group’s efforts aim to protect Pune’s industrialists from corrupt practices and ensure a fair and transparent process within the Pollution Control Board.
