Hey there, turtle lovers! Big news coming out of Pune – the forest department is teaming up with the RESQ Charitable Trust to manage the care and rehabilitation of some special turtle species. These turtles have been victims of illegal trade and trafficking, but now they’re getting the help they need.
Deputy Conservator of Forests Tushar Chavan is all about this new facility, the Turtle Treatment Center (TTC), which will allow for direct rehabilitation of these precious turtles. No more relying on NGOs – the forest department has got this covered.
Once these turtles are back on their feet, they’ll be released back into the wild with the help of local forest departments, even if that means outside of Maharashtra. A special team of experts will make sure each turtle is safely transported to the TTC, with necessary quarantine measures in place for those needing medical attention.
And let’s talk about the stars of the show – the targeted turtle species. From the Indian Star Tortoise to the Brown Roofed Turtle, these guys are getting the VIP treatment they deserve.
This initiative is not only a win for the turtles but also a crucial step in protecting Maharashtra’s native turtle populations. Kudos to the Pune forest department and their partners for making a difference in conservation efforts. Keep up the good work, team!
