Get ready, Pune! Ganeshotsav is just around the corner and the excitement is palpable. The city is buzzing with preparations for the famous festival, both in public spaces and in homes. Pune City Commissioner of Police, Amitesh Kumar, took the stage today to address the media and provide important details about the upcoming festivities.

One key point that Commissioner Kumar highlighted is the strict regulations surrounding liquor sales during Ganeshotsav. Liquor shops in certain areas of Pune, including Faraskhana, Vishrambaug, and Khadak Police Stations, will remain closed for the entire duration of the festival. Additionally, all liquor shops across the city will be closed on specific dates, including the 7th, 17th, and 18th of September.

With a staggering 3,798 public Ganesh Mandals and over 6,64,000 household Ganesh idols in Pune, security is a top priority. A total of 7,000 police personnel will be deployed during the festival, with reinforcements during the immersion period. This deployment includes a formidable team of law enforcement officers, as well as home guards, the State Reserve Police Force, and Quick Response Team units.

To ensure a safe and peaceful celebration, preventive action has already been taken against nearly 2,000 individuals. The use of flammable substances for decorations or creating fire is strictly prohibited, as is the use of firecrackers. Rules will also be enforced to control the volume of speakers, with specific times allotted for loudspeaker use.

In an effort to crack down on criminal activity, measures are being taken to prevent individuals in Pune from obtaining weapons. A dedicated anti-narcotics team has been established to address drug-related issues in the city. Despite a recent crackdown on gangsters, including the well-known Gajanan Marne, the crime rate has seen a resurgence. The commissioner has assured that strict action will be taken to maintain law and order in Pune.

As the city gears up for Ganeshotsav, it’s clear that the authorities are leaving no stone unturned to ensure a safe and enjoyable celebration for all. Stay tuned for more updates as the festival unfolds in Pune!
