Pune witnessed a historic event with the inauguration of the first-ever ‘Global Ganesh Festival’ yesterday, which was attended by international youth. The event, organized by prominent Ganeshotsav organizers in the city, also featured the ‘Global Ganesh Summit’ with notable attendees from around the world.
Discussions at the summit focused on how the Global Ganeshotsav could impact Pune’s economy and religious tourism, the benefits of solo travel to the festival, and the development of Global Ganesha tourism. Various important figures highlighted the need for international recognition of Ganeshotsav and the potential for attracting foreign tourists.
Plans were announced to establish memoranda of understanding between global Ganesh Mandals and Pune-based Ganesh Mandals, as well as organizing global-level competitions to promote the festival on an international scale. The importance of local and international organizers working together to promote Ganeshotsav globally was emphasized by Dr. Satish Desai and Bharat Desadla.
Infrastructure development to support religious tourism and enhance the festival’s recognition was stressed by Mahesh Suryavanshi, while Yogesh Alekari emphasized the need for relevant resources for foreign tourists visiting India. The announcement of the ‘Moraya Helpline’ to assist international tourists visiting religious sites was also made, with Uday Jagtap stating that the helpline will support tourists coming from abroad.
Overall, the aim of the ‘Global Ganesh Festival’ is to transform Ganeshotsav into a global folk festival through people’s participation, the use of technology, necessary facilities for foreigners, guidance, and the exchange of festival practices globally. Pune’s Ganeshotsav is set to gain global recognition through this initiative, paving the way for a more inclusive and internationally celebrated festival.
