Potholes have become a major headache for residents of Pune following heavy rains in the city. The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has taken a proactive step by launching a special telephone service for citizens to report potholes on the roads. This move is aimed at speeding up the repair process and ensuring that issues are addressed in a timely manner.

The PMC has wasted no time in getting to work on fixing the potholes. In just three days, the municipal team has filled a whopping 1,224 potholes on major roads and completed patchwork on 153 other damaged areas. For roads with a higher number of potholes, resurfacing work will be carried out to provide a more long-lasting solution. All of this repair work comes at a cost of several crores of rupees for the municipal corporation.

The deteriorated state of Pune’s roads can be attributed to last year’s infrastructure upgrade works as well as the relentless rains this year. The ongoing downpours have only made things worse, resulting in widespread damage, particularly on asphalt roads.

Despite the challenges posed by the heavy rains, the PMC’s Road Department, under the leadership of Chief Engineer Anirudh Pavaskar, has been working tirelessly to fill potholes using cement and asphalt materials. The use of cement ensures durability and effectiveness in the repair work.

To encourage citizens to participate in the reporting of potholes and to speed up repair work, the PMC has set up dedicated telephone lines for the public to report pothole locations. By calling 020-25501083 or 9043271003, residents can now notify the Road Department about potholes in their area. This new service is expected to improve the efficiency of the municipal response and lead to better road conditions throughout Pune.
