The Pune International Centre (PIC) inaugurated its new campus in Pashan, Pune, on January 26, 2025, on the occasion of India’s 76th Republic Day. The campus was symbolically inaugurated by His Holiness The Dalai Lama, with his message read out by Dr. Raghunath Mashelkar, President of PIC.
In his message, The Dalai Lama praised Pune’s intellectual environment and commended PIC for engaging youth in discussions on important issues. He emphasized the importance of ancient Indian wisdom and its potential to create positive change in India and the world.
Dr. Mashelkar expressed his gratitude for Dalai Lama’s blessings and reflected on the growth of PIC over the years. He highlighted the contributions of PIC’s founders and emphasized the organization’s role as a torchbearer of transformative ideas.
The inauguration ceremony took place at the new campus Amphitheatre, attended by PIC Trustees, Members, and dignitaries including former Union Minister Prakash Javadekar. The event began with the unveiling of a Buddha statue and a campus tour for guests.
Dr. Vijay Kelkar spoke about PIC’s role in shaping public policy and its various initiatives in areas such as national security, environment, and social innovation. Dr. Ravi Pandit discussed PIC 2.0 and its vision for independent and fact-based policy research.
Prashant Girbane highlighted the support received from Ratan Tata and Tata Trusts, as well as the inspiration from Dr. Mashelkar and Dr. Kelkar. Maj Gen Nitin Gadkari delivered the vote of thanks, acknowledging the contributions of all involved in PIC’s success.
The event concluded with an explanation of Pasaydan by PIC Member Devdutt Modak and a rendition of Lata Mangeshkar’s version of the prayer. Modak described PIC as a ‘mandiali’, a town of conscious citizens.
The inauguration of the new PIC campus marks a significant milestone in the organization’s journey towards promoting positive developments in India and beyond.
