So, here’s the scoop on the latest news from Pune – a jeweller from Busyland building on Kumthekar Road, V.R. Ghodke Jeweller, has landed himself in hot water for selling jewellery made from elephant hair. Yep, you heard that right – elephant hair!
Now, before you start picturing poor elephants walking around bald, let me clarify – it’s a tradition in some parts of Africa and Asia to wear elephant hair for strength and protection. Some even believe that it wards off evil forces and nightmares. But here’s the kicker – it’s illegal to possess or sell elephant hair in India under the Wildlife Protection Act.
So, when Wildlife Warden Aditya Vivek Paranjape caught wind of Ghodke Jeweller’s advertisements, he decided to investigate. Sending in an undercover customer, Paranjape confirmed that the jewellery indeed contained elephant hair. Cue the police intervention!
Deputy Commissioner of Police Sandip Singh Gill, Senior Police Inspector Vijaymala Pawar, and Crime Inspector Ghodke swiftly took action. They seized rings, bracelets, necklaces, and bangles made from elephant hair and launched an investigation led by Police Sub-Inspector Phartade.
So, moral of the story – if you’re in Pune and thinking of rocking some elephant hair bling, think again. Stick to legal accessories, folks!
