Hey there Punekars, looks like we’re in for some good news when it comes to our water supply! Thanks to the recent rains in the catchment area of the Khadakwasla Dam chain, our dams are now half full and we’re looking at a much-improved water situation. So, no more worrying about supply cuts for now.

In the recent District Planning Committee meeting, it was decided to start supplying water from the Khadakwasla Dam to the new Mutha Right Bank Canal for farming purposes. This move will not only benefit farmers but also ensure a more stable water supply for the city.

All four dams – Temghar, Varasgaon, Panshet, and Khadakwasla – now have a combined storage of 14.24 TMC. The recent rains have been a game-changer, with Temghar receiving 70 mm, Varasgaon 50 mm, Panshet 52 mm, and Khadakwasla 5 mm of rainfall. The numbers are looking good, with Varasgaon and Panshet already surpassing the 50% storage capacity mark.

But it’s not just these dams that are benefiting from the rains. The Pavana Dam, which supplies water to the Pimpri Chinchwad area, has also seen 78 mm of rain and currently holds 3.87 TMC of water. And let’s not forget about Kalmodi Dam and Vadiwale Dam in Pune district, both of which are at full capacity.

With the release of water into the Kundali River from Vadiwale Dam and adjustments being made based on rainfall, it looks like we’re on the right track. So, let’s keep our fingers crossed for more rain and a continued improvement in our water situation. Cheers to ‘Acche Din’ for Punekars!
