Hey Pune folks, listen up! The Traffic Division is gearing up for a special drive against ‘drunk and drive’ violations on New Year’s Eve. So if you’re planning to hit the town and have a few drinks, make sure you have a designated driver or a safe ride home.
During the pandemic, action against ‘drunk and drive’ violations took a back seat due to the risk of infection from the breathalyzer test. But now, with the situation improving, the police are back in action. Each person undergoing the test will be given a separate ‘use and throw’ blow pipe to ensure safety.
So far in 2024, 5,256 vehicle drivers and riders have faced action for ‘drunk and drive’ offences, with the highest number of violators being penalized in October. The numbers for previous years show a significant decrease in violations during the pandemic, but it seems like people are back to their old habits.
