Hey there, folks! Today in Pune, some big news coming your way. The Special Judge at the CBI Cases in Pune has handed down a conviction for Adv. Hemant Thorat and Laxman Deshmukh. These two individuals have been found guilty of some serious offenses under the IPC and the Prevention of Corruption Act.
So, what did they do? Well, they were convicted of offenses under Section 120-B of the IPC and Section 8 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988. The court didn’t take it lightly, as both Thorat and Deshmukh have been sentenced to 5 years in prison and a hefty fine of Rs. 1,00,000 each. And if they can’t pay up, they’ll have to spend an additional 2 months behind bars.
But wait, there’s more. They were also convicted of another offense under Section 120-B and slapped with a 6-month prison term and a Rs. 10,000 fine each. And if they can’t pay that fine, they’ll have to serve an extra 15 days in jail.
This whole case started back in 2013 when a complaint was filed by Sanjay V. Gokhale, an Inspector at the CBI in Pune. It all stemmed from another case against Vir Singh, the former Chief Loco Inspector in Daund, Pune. Singh spilled the beans during his interrogation, revealing that Thorat and Deshmukh had demanded and accepted a hefty sum of money to influence judges and officials.
The CBI didn’t waste any time and filed a charge sheet against Thorat and Deshmukh in early 2014. And now, after years of legal proceedings, justice has been served. Stay tuned for more updates on this developing story.
