Tragedy struck in Mandavgan Pharata, Shirur Taluka as a 4-year-old boy, Shivtej Tembhekar, was fatally attacked by a leopard while playing outside his house. The incident occurred in the early morning while his parents were nearby, but unfortunately, they were unable to save him from the swift and sudden attack.
The Maharashtra Forest Department’s Shirur Division responded quickly to the scene and conducted an autopsy at the Sub-District Hospital in Shirur. Efforts are now being made to capture the leopard, with the deployment of 22 cages, 10 camera traps, and a thermal drone to track its movements.
Villagers in the area have been advised to follow safety instructions and report any sightings of the leopard to the authorities. This tragic incident serves as a reminder of the importance of coexisting with wildlife and taking precautions to ensure the safety of both humans and animals in shared habitats.
