Pune residents woke up to a chilly surprise on Wednesday as the city experienced its season’s first single-digit temperature. With temperatures dropping to 8.9°C in the NDA area and 9.9°C in Shivajinagar, Pune was cooler than several northern cities and hill stations like Dharamsala and Katra.
The record low temperatures in Pune surpassed those in cities like Delhi, Gurugram, and Ludhiana, while the daytime temperatures were comparable to places like Amritsar and Gurugram. This sudden change in weather has left residents feeling like they are in a hill station rather than a bustling city.
Meteorologists attribute this cold spell to factors like cold northerly winds, low moisture levels, calm nights, and clear skies. However, they predict that the minimum temperatures will rise by the weekend due to a weather system over the Bay of Bengal.
Despite the cold, many residents are enjoying the winter charm that has enveloped the city. One regular walker in the NDA area described the mornings as feeling like being in a hill station. As Pune continues to experience this wintry spell, it remains to be seen how long the chill will last before giving way to milder weather.
For now, Pune can revel in its transformation into a winter wonderland, even if just for a short time.
