Hey folks, it’s been a long road for the proposed third and fourth railway lines between Pune and Lonavala. Can you believe it’s been four years since the first detailed project report was submitted? And now, after nine months of waiting, the revised report is still sitting on the sidelines.

Originally estimated at Rs 4,884 crore, the project’s cost has now ballooned to Rs 5,100 crore. That’s an increase of Rs 216 crore in just five years! Despite the Maharashtra State Government’s willingness to contribute 50% of the total cost, they haven’t actually approved or allocated any funds for the project. Talk about a delay!

The expansion of the Pune-Lonavala railway line would benefit passengers in Pune and Pimpri Chinchwad greatly. Imagine more mail and express trains, and improved local commuter services. But alas, all we have right now are promises and pending approvals.

With 79 trains operating between Pune and Mumbai, and 42 local trains running between Pune and Lonavala, the daily passenger count exceeds a whopping 1,50,000. That’s a lot of people relying on a limited number of tracks, leading to delays, disruptions, and restrictions on new services.

Let’s hope that the upcoming legislative session sees some action from our legislators. Because until then, it looks like we’ll just have to sit tight and wait for those third and fourth railway lines to become a reality. Keep your fingers crossed, folks!
