Attention all Malayalees in Pune! It looks like your voices have been heard as Malayalee associations in Pune have launched a campaign for better train connectivity between Pune and Kerala. Over five lakh Keralites residing in Pune have been facing struggles with the current travel options, prompting this much-needed initiative.
The online campaign started earlier this week and has been gaining momentum as residents share their grievances about the lack of convenient and efficient travel options. One member of the association pointed out that the Kanyakumari Express takes a whopping 33 hours to reach Trivandrum from Pune, while the Pune-Ernakulam Superfast Train, which takes 24 hours, runs only twice a week and is always overbooked.
To address these issues, the associations have written to the Railway Divisional Manager, requesting that the Pune-Ernakulam Superfast be made a daily service and its route extended to Trivandrum. They have also suggested introducing faster alternatives such as the Duronto Express or the Vande Bharat Sleeper Train.
Arun Kumar, who spearheaded an online petition, stressed the urgency of the issue, stating that traveling for over 33 hours to Trivandrum is unreasonable in today’s era of high-speed railways. He emphasized that Malayalees in Pune feel neglected and that the railways must address this disparity.
The campaign has already caught the attention of railway authorities, who have mentioned that the demands are currently under discussion. Additionally, residents have also highlighted the lack of air connectivity between Pune and Kerala, adding to their travel woes.
It’s great to see the community coming together to demand better transportation options. Let’s hope that these efforts result in improved train connectivity for Malayalees in Pune. Stay tuned for more updates on this developing story!
