In a landmark judgement in Khed, a 30-year-old man has been sentenced to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs 10,000 for abusing a minor at a gym. The incident, which took place on the evening of 1st January 2022, saw the accused subjecting the child to unnatural assault before the victim managed to escape and inform his mother.
The case, which was registered at Junnar Police Station under IPC Section 377 and relevant sections of the POCSO Act, saw the victim’s mother filing the complaint. Police Sub-Inspector YY Patil conducted a thorough investigation and filed a chargesheet against the accused.
Special Public Prosecutor Vikas Deshpande presented testimony from nine witnesses, with the victim’s testimony playing a crucial role in the case. Deshpande argued for severe punishment for the accused, which was ultimately accepted by the court. The court ruled that the fine should be recovered from the accused and compensation should be given to the victim.
This judgement serves as a powerful reminder of the seriousness with which crimes against minors, especially of a sexual nature, are treated by the judicial system. It sends a strong message that such heinous acts will not be tolerated and perpetrators will be held accountable for their actions.
