Hey Pune peeps, big news coming your way! The Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation Limited (MahaMetro) is looking to expand the Swargate to Katraj Metro line, and it’s not just adding one, but two new stations along the way. How cool is that?

So, here’s the deal – MahaMetro has sent a proposal to the State Government for the expansion, which includes building stations at Balaji Nagar (near Bharati University) and Sahakar Nagar in Bibwewadi. And get this, the entire metro line will be underground, so no need for any land acquisition drama, except for the station sites, of course.

Originally, the plan was to have three stations – Market Yard, Padmavati, and Katraj. But thanks to public demand and some recommendations, Balaji Nagar was thrown into the mix. And after some further inspection, it was decided that Bibwewadi and Sahakar Nagar needed stations too. So, now we’re looking at a total of five stations on this 5.46 km underground metro line project.

Of course, with all these additions, the project cost is going up by ₹683 crore. But don’t worry, the funds are coming from different sources – 10% from the Central Government, 15% from the State Government, 15% from the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC), and the rest through loans.

Shravan Hardikar, the Managing Director of MahaMetro, seems pretty confident that the approval for the new stations will come soon. And once that happens, they can kickstart the tender process and get this show on the road. So, Pune peeps, get ready for a smoother metro ride in the future!
