The Pune Metro is all set to expand its services to Swargate just in time for Ganeshotsav, with significant progress already made on the underground metro line from District Court (Shivajinagar) to Swargate. Mahametro, the agency behind the project, is aiming to complete 95 percent of the remaining work by the end of July, in anticipation of the upcoming assembly election code of conduct in September.

According to Atul Gadgil, Director of Mahametro, the metro line from District Court to Swargate is almost complete and is on track to be finished by the end of July. The 3.64-kilometer route includes important stops at Budhwar Peth, Mandai, and Swargate stations, with a notable milestone being the underground passage beneath the Mutha riverbed between District Court Station and Budhwar Peth Station.

After the construction is completed, the Metro Railway Safety Commissioner will inspect the route thoroughly. Once final approval is received, Mahametro will propose to the state government to start metro services on this line. It is expected that the services could begin as early as September, unless there are any delays due to the election code of conduct.

The new metro line is expected to be a boon for commuters in Pune’s central areas, especially during Ganeshotsav. The central Peth area, which is known for its Ganesha temples, often faces heavy traffic congestion during festive times. The metro service will provide a convenient and efficient alternative, making travel easier for thousands of devotees and residents.
