The Pune Metro was buzzing with activity on the evening of 17th September 2024, as crowds gathered to witness the grand Ganesh Visarjan in the central Peth areas. The 5 Manache Ganpati mandals took part in the immersion procession, drawing in people from all corners of the city. The scene at the Pune District Court Metro Station was particularly chaotic, with passengers having to wait for 2 to 3 trains due to overcrowding.

Passengers traveling from areas like Pimpri-Chinchwad and Ramwadi had to change lines at stations like Civil Court to reach popular destinations such as Pune Municipal Corporation and Deccan Gymkhana. The situation was exacerbated by malfunctioning escalators at the Pune District Court Metro Station, leaving passengers with no choice but to use the crowded lifts.

With the Metro operating 24 hours to accommodate the Anant Chaturdashi Visarjan and limited parking for private vehicles, public transportation was in high demand. Despite the challenges, passengers like Shail Matade and Ishaan Dhadwad were determined to be a part of the festivities. Hemant Sonawane, Executive Director of Pune Metro, reassured the public that the situation was being managed effectively.

Overall, it was a day of excitement and chaos as Pune Metro experienced crowds akin to Mumbai’s local trains. The spirit of Ganesh Visarjan brought people together, showcasing the city’s vibrant culture and traditions.
