Hey Pune peeps, have you heard the latest about the Pune Metro? The new route extension from Ruby Hall to Ramwadi has been a huge hit with passengers, leading to a significant increase in ridership numbers. Since the extension opened in March, the metro has been seeing an average of 90,000 riders daily, which is a big jump from before.

Back in January, the Pune Metro was carrying around 1.755 million passengers, a number that went up slightly to 1.776 million in February. But ever since Prime Minister Narendra Modi cut the ribbon on the extended route in March, things have really taken off. March saw a whopping 2.258 million riders, followed by 2.381 million in April and a staggering 2.616 million in May.

The daily ridership, which was sitting at around 60,000 in January, has now shot up to 90,000 thanks to the new route extension to Ramwadi. And with more people riding, the metro’s daily revenue has also seen a boost, going from about Rs. 9 lakhs to Rs. 14 lakhs, resulting in a total income of Rs. 4.24 crore in May alone.

Right now, the Pune Metro is running on two main routes: Pimpri-Chinchwad to District Court and Vanaz to Ramwadi. The latest extension from Ruby Hall to Ramwadi covers stations like Bund Garden, Yerawada, Kalyaninagar, and Ramwadi, spanning a distance of 5.5 kilometers. And there’s more to come, as the Pimpri-Chinchwad to District Court route is set to extend all the way to Swargate. This 3.64-kilometer underground section is expected to start running in September, as per Hemant Sonawane, the Executive Director of MahaMetro.

And if you think that’s all the good news, think again! The Yerawada station on the Vanaz to Ramwadi line is set to open by the end of July. The Pune Municipal Corporation is currently working on relocating one of the station’s entrance stairs to avoid causing any problems on a city road. Once that’s done, we can expect even more passengers hopping on board this route.

So, if you haven’t already checked out the Pune Metro’s new and improved routes, now’s the perfect time to do so. With all this growth in ridership, it looks like Pune’s metro system is on the right track to success!
