Pune Metro is gearing up for a major expansion to cater to the increasing demand for better public transport in the city. The Managing Director and Municipal Commissioner recently discussed plans to extend the metro routes, with a focus on improving connectivity and reducing traffic congestion.
One of the key developments in this expansion is the metro line connecting Kharadi to Pune International Airport. This new route will be part of a larger corridor linking Khadakwasla, Swargate, Hadapsar, and Kharadi, making it easier for passengers to travel to and from the airport.
The Pune Municipal Corporation has been tasked with preparing a Detailed Project Report for this extension to ensure a smooth transition from planning to implementation. Once completed, the Kharadi to Airport link will turn Kharadi into a major transportation hub with multiple metro connections to key parts of Pune.
Other routes included in the metro extension plan are Chandani Chowk to Wagholi, Nigdi to Swargate, Shivajinagar to the Airport, Hinjawadi to Shivajinagar, and Khadakwasla to Swargate to Hadapsar. These expanded routes aim to make commuting more efficient and improve connectivity for daily passengers.
In addition to the metro extensions, authorities have proposed the construction of a double-decker flyover along the Vanaz to Chandani Chowk corridor to ease traffic congestion. This flyover will complement the metro expansion and help reduce traffic bottlenecks in the area.
Overall, the Pune Metro expansion project is expected to significantly enhance the city’s public transport system, providing residents with improved connectivity and smoother commutes. The focus on reducing traffic congestion and enhancing urban mobility is a positive step towards creating a more modern and efficient transportation network in Pune.
