Pune’s Maha Metro is stepping up its game to make commuting a breeze for its passengers. With plans to increase the frequency of trains to every three minutes during peak hours, the Metro is aiming to reduce wait times and improve the overall travel experience.
Currently, trains run at seven-minute intervals during rush hours, but that is set to change soon. The initial plan is to have trains operate at five-minute intervals, with the long-term goal being a frequency of every three minutes. Studies are underway to make this a reality in the coming months.
Commuters have been vocal about the need for more trains or additional coaches, especially during peak hours when trains are often packed to capacity. With daily ridership on the rise, reaching 1.5 lakh passengers in September 2023 and expected to hit 2 lakh soon, the need for increased capacity is evident.
Maha Metro officials have made it clear that their focus is on improving train frequency before considering adding more coaches. With historical improvements already seen in train intervals and 28 operational stations across the two routes, the Metro is on track to meet the growing demand.
While the Metro service itself is commendable, some commuters have pointed out gaps in last-mile connectivity. For instance, the lack of feeder autorickshaw services at certain stations like Bopodi is a hindrance for passengers looking to reach their final destination easily.
As Pune’s Maha Metro continues to make strides in enhancing the commuting experience, it is crucial for authorities to address last-mile connectivity issues to ensure seamless travel for all passengers.
