Hey Pune Metro enthusiasts, have you heard the latest news about the Swargate-Katraj extension project? Maha-Metro is looking to shake things up by proposing a new station at Balaji Nagar. This addition aims to not only reduce the distance between stations but also provide better coverage for areas like Dhankawadi and Bibvewadi.

The civic approval for this change comes with a condition – no extra financial burden on the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC). It seems like a win-win situation for everyone involved!

Shravan Hardikar, the Managing Director of Maha-Metro, is all in on this idea. He believes that with the increasing ridership and development in Balaji Nagar, adding a new station just makes sense. And guess what? The technical feasibility of the station has already been confirmed.

Currently, the average distance between stations on this extension is 1.9 km. By introducing the Balaji Nagar station, this distance will be brought in line with Metro standards, making it more convenient for commuters.

As for the cost, back in 2021, PMC approved the Swargate-Katraj extension with a project cost of ₹2,954.53 crore. This project, funded by both the central and state governments, is making progress. Similar additions have been successfully made on the PCMC-Nigdi extension line, so this new station shouldn’t be a problem.

Speaking of progress, Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently kicked things off by laying the foundation stone for the Swargate-Katraj underground route. And let’s not forget about the ongoing work on the PCMC-Swargate and Vanaz-Ramwadi corridors.

There are even more exciting plans in the pipeline, with proposals for extensions from Nal Stop to Manikbaug via Warje, Vanaz to Chandni Chowk, and a new route connecting Khadakwasla to Kharadi via Hadapsar. The future of Pune Metro is looking brighter than ever! Stay tuned for more updates.
