The recent inauguration of the District Court to Swargate stretch of the Pune Metro’s Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) to Swargate route by Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been a game-changer for commuters in the city. The new metro line has significantly boosted ridership, with passengers traveling from Pimpri Chinchwad to Pune in just 35 minutes for a fare of only 35 rupees.

Since its opening, the PCMC to Swargate route has seen a surge in ridership, with a total of 3.45 lakh passengers using the metro from October 1 to 5. The daily ridership numbers have been impressive, with over 70,000 passengers on certain days.

Many commuters are now eagerly awaiting the commencement of the Shivajinagar-Hinjewadi Metro line, which will provide a vital connection to the Hinjewadi IT Park. Construction for this line is well underway, with 70% of the metro line already completed and 99% of land acquisition finalized.

In a bid to expedite the project, Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar has directed authorities to allow round-the-clock construction activities on the Shivajinagar-Aundh section, ensuring timely completion. The anticipated opening date for the Shivajinagar-Hinjewadi Metro route is April 2025.

Once completed, the elevated metro line will span 23.203 km and include 23 stations, connecting key areas such as Megapolis Circle, Infosys Phase II, Wipro Phase II, and University. This infrastructure project is not only crucial for improving connectivity but also for reducing traffic congestion in Pune.

As the city continues to grow, the new metro lines are set to revolutionize public transport and enhance the daily commute for residents. With the Shivajinagar-Hinjewadi Metro line on the horizon, Pune’s transportation system is on the brink of a major transformation.
