Pune witnessed a significant shift in power as the Mahayuti alliance emerged victorious in the recent Maharashtra Assembly Elections. With the BJP leading the charge and securing the highest number of seats, Chief Minister Eknath Shinde is gearing up to step down and pave the way for a new government.
In Pune, three prominent leaders have already been chosen for cabinet positions, with more lobbying for their spots. The Mahayuti alliance managed to secure 18 out of 21 seats in Pune city, Pimpri Chinchwad, and the district, leaving the Mahavikas Aghadi with only two seats.
The race for ministerial posts is on, with BJP, Shiv Sena, and the Ajit Pawar-led faction of the NCP vying for positions in the new government. While the exact number of ministerial posts is yet to be determined, names like Ajit Pawar, Chandrakant Patil, and Dilip Walse-Patil have been floated for cabinet positions from Pune district.
Speculation is rife about other potential candidates, including Madhuri Misal, Bhimrao Tapkir, Sunil Kamble, Mahesh Landge, Rahul Kul, Dattatray Bharne, and Vijay Shivtare. Misal, the only woman MLA from Pune, is seen as a strong contender, while Kamble and Bharne could represent important sections of society in the cabinet.
As discussions heat up, the final decisions on ministerial appointments will hinge on the allocation of posts among the coalition parties. The coming days will reveal which MLAs from Pune will secure positions in the new government and shape the future of the state.
