Tushar Dighe, a seasoned mountaineer from Dhankawadi, Pune, has made headlines with his successful ascent of the formidable Ooty Kangri peak in Ladakh. This snow-capped peak, standing at 6,700 meters, is known for being one of the toughest treks in the region.
Discovered in 2019 above Rumtse village in Leh, Ooty Kangri peak presents a steep 70-degree angle and challenging terrain that require specialized equipment like ice axes and crampons. Tushar, along with his associates Khitij Vikhe and Subodh Gangudre, embarked on the ambitious expedition using an alpine approach, completing the grueling ascent in just 12-13 hours.
Describing the trek as offbeat and rarely attempted, Tushar highlighted the current season as ideal for climbing due to manageable snow levels. With a background that includes completing mountaineering courses in Sikkim and the Indian Himalayas, as well as summiting various peaks like Friendship Peak and Ban Sir, Tushar’s achievement has been recognized by Everest Veer Lahu Bhoke from S. L. Adventure.
Tushar’s successful climb of Ooty Kangri peak not only showcases his expertise and dedication but also serves as an inspiration for aspiring mountaineers in Pune and Maharashtra. The climb highlights the importance of specialized skills and equipment, Tushar’s exceptional physical endurance, and his contribution to the mountaineering community.
